Make sure to check these restrictions before traveling to Japan. Bringing prohibited items may result in fines, confiscation, or legal penalties.
Drugs & Illegal Substances
・Illegal drugs are strictly prohibited.
・This includes cannabis, even if it is legal in your country.
💡Japan has very strict drug laws, and penalties can be severe.
Medications
・Some prescription and over-the-counter medicines are restricted in Japan.
・Medications containing stimulants, narcotics, or certain ingredients (such as pseudoephedrine) may not be allowed.
・Sleeping pills, painkillers, ADHD medications, and strong cold medicines may also be restricted depending on their ingredients.
・You may need special permission to bring certain medicines into Japan.
💡Always check in advance. Apply for a permit if necessary. Bringing restricted medication without permission may result in confiscation or legal issues at customs.
Weapons
・Firearms, knives, and explosives are prohibited.
Food Products
・Meat, dairy products, and fresh fruits or vegetables may be restricted.
Counterfeit Goods
・Fake brand-name items are not allowed.
Large Amounts of Cash
・If you are bringing more than ¥1,000,000 in cash (or its foreign currency equivalent) into or out of Japan, you must declare it at customs.
・The same rule applies when entering and leaving Japan.
💡 This is not a limit — you can carry more, but customs declaration is required.
